Personal Statement

I received my board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology in 2018 after completing my residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Subsequently, I pursued two subspecialty fellowships in Surgical and Gastrointestinal Pathology at the Johns Hopkin Hospital, serving as a Pathology Assistant from 2018-2020.  I have expertise in gastrointestinal, pancreas, and liver pathology. My academic interests include pre-neoplastic conditions of the esophagus and pancreaticobiliary tree with an emphasis on correlation between morphology with molecular alterations. I am dedicated to the education and career development of residents and fellows and serving as an active member of national pathology societies including the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).

Biographical Info

Dr. Windon received her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in 2008 and her Doctor of Medicine from Meharry Medical College in 2014. She subsequently completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2018, and she successfully became board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology that same year. Following residency, she completed two advanced training fellowships at The Johns Hopkins Hospital: the first in Surgical Pathology in 2019 and the second in Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology in 2020. During both of these fellowships she was responsible for case sign out and teaching of trainees, and thus gained valuable experience as an attending pathologist early in her career. Dr. Windon is a highly qualified Gastrointestinal (GI) Pathologist who comes to us already with considerable experience. Immediately after completion of her fellowships in 2020, she was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Annika will join our Weill Cornell faculty in July 2023 as a GI and Liver Pathologist after serving in a similar role at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for the past 3 years.
